Frank Talerico Jr.'s Basic Webpage

I have never attempted to make a webpage before and I was very intimidated by this task! I was not sure I would be able to make a page at first but I did it! I have listed my 2 possible topics for my final project below:

Topic One

Parents’ Guide to an Individualized Education Program (IEP) Meeting

I have been part of many IEP meetings as both a General and Special Educator. The majority of parents who I have worked with during these meetings have had doubts about the overall process. The website I want to create helps guide parents before, during, and after an IEP meeting. According to The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) of 2004:

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law ensuring services to children with disabilities throughout the nation. IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education and related services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children and youth with disabilities.

The ideal outcome from using this website would be parents who can advocate for their child’s needs before, during, and after an IEP meeting.

Topic Two

Document Based Question (DBQ) Basics for Teachers

Other than being a Special Education teacher, I have also taught as a high school History teacher for many years. I have taught many areas of history, including but not limited to US History, Geography, and Advanced Placement World History. While teaching AP World History, students were required to complete a specific kind of historical inquiry known as document based questions (DBQ's). These questions required a higher level of critical thinking; however, I firmly believe that DBQ's should be utilized in history classrooms for all grade levels and across all capabilities. My second possible website would do the following:

  1. Illustrate meaningful ways teachers can integrate DBQ's in their classroom for all students.
  2. Provide teachers with DBQ's that are more culturally-responsive.
